Welcome back to my 29th Whitterview. This week I am pleased to introduce to you Derrick Henry, not the NFL player, but the MTV reality star extraordinaire.
If you're a MTV reality show fan, then I guarantee you know who Derrick is. He is on his 5th show for MTV, along side last week's Whitterview Paulie Calafiore- you can find both of them on MTV's The Challenge Final Reckoning which premiered last Tuesday. Derrick has been on five shows in one year and he spills the tea on what it was like being on his first one.
So without further ado, I give you Derrick Henry!

Tell me about yourself:
DH: I’m 25 years old and born and raised in Atlanta, GA. My parents are born and raised in Jamaica and they taught me the true value in being appreciative and to always count your blessings and not your problems. I have 2 older brothers who are my role models and they got me into basketball from the age 5. I was fortunate to overcome a lot of hardships in life and to receive a Division 1 basketball scholarship to play at Winthrop University. I graduated with a 3.7 GPA and received a degree in Business Finance and minor in Economics in 2015. I then went on to play my senior season of college basketball at The Citadel and completed my MBA in 1 year with a 3.9 GPA in 2016. After finishing my MBA, I was blessed with the opportunity to be on the cast of Are You The One? Season 5 and it’s been a life changing experience.
Do people ever confuse you for Derrick Henry of the Tennessee Titans?
DH: Yes, whenever I used to make a call on the phone to order something and give my name, they asked, “Are you The Derrick Henry?” When I played high school and college basketball I hated googling myself because Derrick Henry from the NFL would always pop up no matter what filters I used. Now when I google Derrick Henry, “MTV” pops up immediately.
You’ve been on a few reality shows, but talk to me about your first one. Were you nervous to dive into the Reality World or excited?
DH: When I got the chance to be on my first reality show, I was extremely comfortable being on the camera. I was never camera shy and usually never even noticed the cameras. The first night in the Are You The One? house, I asked to leave because I thought people were being fake. Girls were running around crying, people were saying I love you, and I was thinking, “Oh hell naw, I can’t deal with this fake stuff. Yall only knew each other for 2 hours.” I obviously didn’t leave the house and I noticed people weren’t being fake, reality tv just brings out crazy emotions.
As an “ex” on Ex on the Beach, were you aware your exes were going to be there? Or were you like the OG’s who didn’t know what to really expect.
DH: Since Ex On The Beach was my 4th show, I wasn’t new to the casting process. When the producers kept asking me about Angela in interviews, I had a feeling the show was going to be Ex On The Beach. However, I wasn’t expecting the twists like Shack of Secrets and Eliminations.
Out of all the shows you’ve been on, which has been your favorite?
DH: Out of my 5 tv shows, Ex On The Beach was my favorite. The show was just so much fun and everything was unexpected in regards to the Shack of Secrets and Eliminations.
If you could be on any other reality show which would it be?
DH: If I could be on any other reality show, it would be Jersey Shore.
What’s a fun fact about yourself that not many people may know?
DH: Fun fact that not many people know about me is that I had 3 college degrees by the age 23.
Say you could pick any celebrity in the world to be your partner on the Final Reckoning, who would you choose?
DH: If I could pick any celebrity to be my partner on the Final Reckoning, it would be Beyoncé because I don’t think anyone would have what it takes to actually try sending Beyoncé into elimination.
Describe your time on The Final Reckoning in three words and what can we expect?
DH: My time on The Final Reckoning would be described as “This Is Crazy!” On the Final Reckoning, you can expect drama, hookups, and twists that are going to blow your mind.
If you could have dinner with three people who would they be and why?
DH: If I could have dinner with 3 people, it would be Will Smith, Bill Gates, and Oprah Winfrey
