Happy Wednesday, folks! Once again it’s Challenge day. Recently The Challenge did a spinoff on Paramount Plus called The Challenge USA with fan favorites from other reality shows that came together and competed. This brings me to this weeks Whitterview guest, who was not only on the first season of The Challenge USA but was previously on Big Brother and a member of the well known alliance The Cookout.
That’s right, Kyland Young is on the Whitterview this week. I have to say, my fellow Cancer zodiac was such a delight to get to know. Honestly hands down one of the most caring guys and I’m so excited for you all to get to know him too. Kyland said he has always heard good things about Cancer like they’re sweet and Kyland really is. The epitome of a Cancer.
So why don’t we get to it. I’m pleased to introduce Kyland!
Growing up did you think you’d get into reality TV?
KY: No, absolutely did not think this would happen. Growing up I never watched reality tv, I’ve only seen full episodes of Big Brother and the Challenge. Even prior to Big Brother I had only watched BB for like three to four years prior. I did go back and watch almost every season prior to going on the show. But prior to that I never thought I would be on reality tv nor did I have any aspirations for that.
Tell me about your time on Big Brother, is there anything you would have done differently?
KY: My time on the show was amazing, like living a dream come true. I had notes from rewatching old seasons for the first time. Surreal but terrifying especially seeing your name come up for the first time in that first week. But overtime getting some momentum and looking at the positives from being in that position that first week I learned how to appreciate my time.
It’s all fun and I’m just glad I was able to appreciate all I had while I was there. Even when it sucked to be in the Punishment.
There are a couple things here and there I would have done differently but I’m happy with it all. So much gratitude.
Switching gears to The Challenge USA, tell me about your time there and what was your favorite daily?
KY: That was basically like Summer camp. Big Brother is so traumatic and The Challenge is no trauma, yeah intense and scary but when you vote someone out in Big Brother you feel like you’re murdering someone and in The Challenge it’s like a sport, like see ya later!
The first daily even though I did terrible, it’s badass to rappel down a skyscraper. Besides that the obstacle course one was pretty fun, I wish it was longer. I really wanted to love the car one but we had a lot of technical difficulties. I will say my heart broke watching the semi truck one when I left, all I wanted was my Fast and Furious moment.
If given the chance to compete on The Challenge MTV, who would you like to be partners with that’s already on the show?
KY: It’s hard not to look at CT or Johnny and not want to be paired with someone who’s won on the male side. For the female side, there’s a lot of strong competitors. Like Kaycee, we get along well and have that Big Brother connection. Amber, same thing- super chill. The newbies Nurys and Olivia are crushing it too.
Is there any other reality show you’d like to compete on?
KY: Well it would have been The Amazing Race but my boy Derek and Claire claimed that. So I feel like they might keep Big Brother away from that show for a while.
I’ve been watching Survivor for the first time, I’ve only seen a bit but I would have to study it and learn it before I said yes. I love mental competition and that’s all mental.
Besides being in the spotlight, what else do you do for work?
KY: It varies, I do some consulting on the marketing side. Some influencer partnerships. I’ve always been an entrepreneur so I’m working on a few business concepts. Also working with another Big Brother/Challenge alum that I can’t say much about yet.
Is there a chance we will see you back on TV soon?
KY: You know it’s not fully up to me but with the right opportunity I’ll jump at it. Just no dating shows, that’s not really for me.
But there’s a decent chance.
If you could have dinner with three people who would they be and why?
KY: Barack Obama. Will Smith. And Oprah.
Oprah has such a wealth of knowledge and I’m just such a big fan of the other two.
